Judge M.T. Thompson, Jr

M.T. Thompson, Jr. has served as a Judge in the 70th District Court, Saginaw, Michigan since 1997.  He has been employed by both the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the National Labor Relations Board.  He was also engaged in the private practice of law for several years in both the Detroit and Saginaw, Michigan communities.  During the past thirty years, he has served as a prosecutor, defense attorney and judge.  Judge Thompson is a graduate of Oakland University and Northeastern University School of Law.  He has several publications and has received numerous awards and served on numerous boards, etc.

 

He has lost family and friends to gangs, drugs and violence.  He knows what a distressed community looks like not just from the top down, but also from the bottom up.  He understands the dynamics of the streets and has successfully faced the same types of problems, challenges and temptations as the children and young adults this book is designed to reach.

Monica R. Nuckolls is a Professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School.  She has previously worked as a trial attorney at two of Michigan’s largest law firms.  She has numerous publications. She graduated with honors from Michigan State University and is a graduate of the University Of Michigan Law School.

 

        Professor Nuckolls has also lost family and friends to gangs, drugs and violence.  She is determined to make America better and keep America strong.  She is determined to stand tall, defend liberty and answer the people’s cry for justice. 

 

Professor Monica R. Nuckolls

Gwendolyn Thompson-McMillon, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Literacy in the Department of Reading and Language Arts at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.  Her research focuses on examining literacy experiences in the African American Church, making home-school-community connections, developing ways to utilize out-of-school literacy experiences to improve in-school literacy teaching and learning and improving the academic achievement of urban learners through data-driven, culturally relevant instruction. 

 

Her publications include book chapters and articles in the Reading Teacher, Language Arts, Education and Urban Society, and several research handbooks.  She is the co-author of Change is Gonna Come: Transforming Literacy Education for African American Students and Essential Understandings of Social Equity Teaching.  She has received numerous awards and served on several boards, etc.
