Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us to a problem to its moral essence and then lay it at the feet of those who can do something about it. the problem of low school achievment, bullying, gangs, drug abuse, crime and the proliferation of shootings in our community are all behavioral problems and we are the only ones who can do something about them.
It still takes an entire village to raise a child. Each of us has an important role to play. We need a new type of partnership between parents, schools, churches andour community.
Among other other things, our schools must accept the responsibility of providing character training and giginvg out children higher standards to live by through their curriculum and the utilization of programs, like ours, which promote the developement of self-management skills. Schools must do more than simply make students smarter, they must also make them better. Our churches must also accept the challenge of launching out into the deep with new evangelistic efforts designed to give out children higher standards to live by.
Simply put, our children need two things. They need character training and they need exposure to positive role models. Our drugs education and crime prevention programs provide character training and gives children and young adults higher standards to live by. They also help develop critical decision making skills.
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." That's the secret to saving our children. If we teach them better, they will do better.
We know that if we take the time, there are some basic character building lessons a young child can be taught. He can be taught to say "please" and "thank-you," to tell the truth, to keep his hands to himself, to not take what does not belong to him, to share, to say he is sorry when he hurts someone and to forgive others when they hurt kim.

CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES
This type of training creates life-long habits and practices. It creates a value system and gives a child a set of standards to live by. It gives a child a moral compass, a conscience, and a desire to do the right thing. After love, character training is one of the most important things we can give our children.
I cannot overemphasize the relationship between training, habits and character. Positive training cultivates positive habits in a child and instills decipline and respect.
Being taught not to talk back or get sassy with adults creates discipline and respect. being taught no to curse, steal or kill creates discipline and respect.
Character is nothing more than the cumulative effect of taught or learned behavior. Training creates habits and habits shape charater. Charater makes life's big decisions. Character decides whether or not you get up in the morning and go to work or school; rob or not rob a neighbor, shoot or not shoot an enemy.
Making Choices And Facing Consequenses and the Weekly Bully Beat Down provides basic character training and teaches children and young adults how to respond when they are confronted with gangs. bullies, drugs, crie and other destructive behavior. It teaches them that good choices have good consequences and bad choices have bad consequences.
Our books also include positive role models, Children and young adults need positive examples to emulate. Boys need to see men who resolve their disagreements without using violence or profanity. They need to see men who successfully face life's problems without resorting to drugs or alcohol. They need to be exposed to men who understand the value of a family and who believe in education and honest work. Only men can show boys how to be a man. We need mentoring programs which expose our boys to such men on a regular basis. this is especially important for those boys who come from fatherless households. Our materials have been successfully used in these types of mentoring programs and we encourage you to consider these type of mentoring programs.
